OUR STORY

Bridging Theory & Practice

We are a civil engineering design team at UBC, made up of a diverse group of students tied together by a dedication to building bridges - physical or otherwise.

We work together making a 1:10 scale model steel bridge fit for international competition each year, with dedicated subteams for each part of the bridge’s life cycle from design and analysis to construction.

Our supportive community makes personal growth a priority, through tried-and-true methods of teaching members skills from software to communications and leadership.

We are proud of our accomplishments and strive to continue making improvements year-over-year at competitions.

Excellence within Reach

Last year our design featured a 20 ft long dual-chord under truss system with a skewed cantilever at the east end to accommodate for site conditions.

In our 1:10 scale steel bridge model, we designed for a stiffer midspan to maximize strength, reduced the number of connections by implementing dual chord members, designed simple connections for rapid construction, and aided the fabrication process by using techniques such as laser-cutting plates.

With this design, we strived to overcome a number of technical challenges with unique solutions.
