Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Our Building Information Modelling (BIM) subteam is relatively new in the history of UBC Steel Bridge, created only one year ago in the 2021 competition year to help with construction sequencing.

For the 2022 competition year, the BIM subteam has learned more about the Autodesk Navisworks software and how to use it to explore different potential sequences for construction and their associated duration of assembly. This involved using the Timeline function on Navisworks. From this, decisions were made, and strategies were learned for faster and more efficient bridge construction.

Throughout the fall term, the BIM subteam has also explored using the real-time 3D immersion software Twinmotion to create visual renders of the bridge to present in the competition.

We are grateful to our pioneers at the BIM subteam for their continued efforts in learning unprecedented methods for constructing sequencing and directly contributing to innovating for our team.
