Design and Analysis: Truss

Design and Analysis: Truss

Our DNAT members have been hard at work throughout the fall term in preparation for our 2022 competition!

Our Design and Analysis: Truss (DNAT) subteam is responsible for designing a bridge geometry with the optimal configuration of structural members given this year’s competition scenario. This year, the CNSBC has tasked competitors to create an optimal design for wildlife crossing a major highway.

From September to December this year, DNAT created deck truss bridge designs for the wildlife crossing with the help of collaborative sketches and computer-assisted modelling. These designs were verified by DNAT members using the structural analysis software S-FRAME and further optimized design regarding the bridge configuration, dimensions, and member sizing. So far, a preliminary plan has been chosen, and the team will soon perform detailed checks.
