UBC Steel Bridge held its first Lunch and Learn of the year on January 18, 2023. The session featured Altair Engineering, who provided an insightful introduction to their company's sectors and the different software categories encompassed within the S-FRAME suite. Matthew Sauer, a representative from Altair Engineering, conducted a practical tutorial on the fundamental principles of bridge framework analysis using the S-FRAME software.

During the session, Steel Bridge members actively participated, following along with the tutorial and creating a simplified bridge structure to analyze using the S-FRAME software. They gained a deeper understanding of the impact of moment releases and support conditions on the model, and a quantitative table was generated from the resulting 3D model, providing valuable numerical analysis data.

In the final part of the session, Steel Bridge members learned how to generate axial loads, shear forces, moment diagrams, and deflections using the S-FRAME software. This software knowledge equipped them with the skills necessary for basic structural analysis.

Overall, the Lunch and Learn event served as an enriching opportunity for UBC Steel Bridge members to explore the capabilities of Altair Engineering's S-FRAME suite, deepen their understanding of bridge framework analysis, and gain hands-on experience with generating critical analysis outputs.
